Key Facts
Where in the World Are They?
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is like a giant club of countries spread across a massive area called Eurasia. Think of it as a huge playground that covers more land than all the continents you can name, except Antarctica! It's so big, it's home to almost half of all the people on Earth. That's a lot of friends to have!
How Did This Big Club Start?
This club didn't just appear overnight! It started small, like a few friends deciding to play together. Back in 1996, five countries – China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan – formed a group called the Shanghai Five.
Later, in 2001, they invited Uzbekistan and decided to make their club even bigger and better, calling it the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Over time, more countries like India, Pakistan, Iran, and Belarus joined the fun!
What Do They Do Together?
The SCO countries are like a team that helps each other out. They talk about important things like keeping everyone safe from bad guys, making sure countries trade fairly, and solving problems together. They even have a special team that works hard to stop terrorism. It's like having a big group of friends who look out for each other and make sure everyone plays nicely.
Who's In Charge of the Big Club?
The leaders of all the member countries get together once a year to make big decisions. It's like the principal of a giant school meeting with all the class presidents! They have a special meeting called the Heads of State Council. They also have a group called RATS, which is like their super-spy team that fights against terrorism. They make sure everyone follows the rules and stays safe.
