Where is Belarus?
Imagine a country tucked away in Eastern Europe, like a secret hideout! Belarus doesn't touch any oceans, making it 'landlocked'. It has big neighbors like Russia to the east and Ukraine to the south.
To the west, it shares borders with Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. It's a pretty big place, almost as big as the state of Kansas in the USA! Its capital city is called Minsk, and it's the busiest place in the whole country.
A Land of Forests and Lakes!
Belarus is a super green country, full of forests and sparkling lakes! It's mostly flat, like a big, grassy playground. You won't find super tall mountains here, but you will find lots of rivers and wetlands, which are like watery meadows.
The weather is a bit like a mix of seasons. Summers can be warm and sunny, perfect for playing outside, while winters are cold and snowy, great for building snowmen!
Long, Long Ago...
Belarus has a very long story! For hundreds of years, it was part of bigger kingdoms, like the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Then, it became part of the giant Russian Empire.
After a big change called the Russian Revolution, it became its own republic within the Soviet Union. During World War II, the country faced many challenges and lost many people and resources. Finally, in 1991, Belarus became an independent country, free to make its own choices!
People and Places
About 9.1 million people call Belarus home. That's like having almost three times the number of kids in your entire country living in one place! The main language spoken is Belarusian, but many people also speak Russian.
The capital, Minsk, is a huge city with lots of buildings and busy streets. People in Belarus enjoy traditions, music, and delicious food. It's a place with a unique culture shaped by its history and its neighbors.
