Terrorism is when people use violence, like explosions or attacks, not to fight soldiers, but to scare everyday people. They do this to try and force leaders to do what they want, like changing rules or laws. It's like someone trying to get your attention by making a really loud, scary noise to make you listen.

The goal is to make lots of people feel unsafe so that governments will listen to their demands.

The idea of using terror to make people listen is pretty old. But the word 'terrorism' really started being used a long, long time ago in France, during a time called the French Revolution. Later, in the 1970s, it became a big topic when there were conflicts in places like Northern Ireland.

Think of it like a story that has been told for a while, but then it became a really important part of the news.

Terrorism is a big deal because it hurts innocent people and makes everyone feel scared. When bad things happen in places like busy train stations or shopping malls, it makes people afraid to go to those places. This can change how people live their lives and how cities work.

It's like if someone kept knocking over your toys on the playground; you'd be scared to play there anymore, and that's not fair.

Terrorists often choose places where lots of people gather, like airports, busy streets, or places where people go for fun. They want their actions to be seen by many people and to cause a lot of fear. This is because they believe that by making many people scared, they can get the people in charge to pay attention and make changes.

It's a way to try and get power by using fear instead of talking.
