Mesoamerica

Mesoamerica is a special region in the Americas, like a giant puzzle piece connecting North and South America. It's a land of sunny beaches, tall mountains, and steamy jungles. Think of it as a super-long stretch of land where Mexico and some countries in Central America are today. It's a place with warm weather perfect for growing yummy foods like corn and beans!

Long before your grandparents were born, incredible civilizations called Mesoamerica home. The Maya and Aztec people were super clever builders and thinkers. They built amazing pyramids that were taller than many trees and even some buildings in cities today! They also invented their own ways of writing and counting, which was pretty cool for their time.

The people of Mesoamerica were fantastic farmers. Their most important food was corn, which they used to make all sorts of delicious things. They also grew beans, squash, and even chocolate! They traded these foods and other cool items like colorful feathers and shiny jade with people in other towns. It was like a giant marketplace!

Even though they didn't have schools like we do, people in Mesoamerica loved to learn. They learned about the stars to make calendars, studied plants for medicine, and passed down stories and skills from parents to children. They were very smart and curious about the world around them, always trying to understand how things worked.
