Meet the Amazing City of Teotihuacan!

Teotihuacan was a super big city built a very, very long time ago, even before the Aztecs! It's in Mexico, not too far from where Mexico City is today. This city was so important that people traveled from far away to visit it. It had giant pyramids, wide streets, and lots of houses. It was like a bustling city center for many people who lived in the area.

Building the Giant Pyramids!

The most famous things in Teotihuacan are its enormous pyramids. The Pyramid of the Sun is the biggest, and it's as tall as a 20-story building! Imagine climbing that many stairs! People used stones and earth to build these amazing structures. They didn't have cranes or trucks like we do today, so they had to move everything by hand. It took many, many people and a lot of hard work.

A City of Mystery!

Nobody knows for sure who built Teotihuacan or why they left. It's like a big puzzle! We know it was a very important place for trade and religion.

People think it was a center for learning and ceremonies. The city was at its busiest around 450 AD, with maybe 100,000 people living there. That's more people than in many towns today!

But then, it was abandoned, and its secrets were hidden for centuries.

Why Teotihuacan is Still Cool!

Even though no one lives there now, Teotihuacan is a UNESCO World Heritage site, which means it's super special and needs to be protected. Scientists and archaeologists study it to learn about ancient life. When you visit, you can walk down the Avenue of the Dead, which is a huge main street, and imagine what it was like when the city was alive. It's a window into a lost world!
