Tenochtitlan

Once upon a time, there was a super cool city called Tenochtitlan! It wasn't built on land like most cities. Nope!

It was built right in the middle of a big lake, like a giant water playground! People built it on a small island and made it bigger by adding land. It was so big, it was like having a whole country inside one city!

They even had amazing temples and palaces that were taller than a giraffe!

A group of people called the Aztecs were the super builders of Tenochtitlan. They were very clever and brave. They followed a sign from their gods to build their city on an island in a lake.

It took them a long time, but they made it happen! They were amazing farmers too, growing food on floating gardens called chinampas. These gardens were like rafts of soil floating on the water, growing yummy veggies!

Tenochtitlan was a really important city because it was the capital, like the main boss city, for the Aztecs. It was huge and full of life! People came from everywhere to trade and buy things. They had a giant marketplace where you could find anything you could imagine. It was also a very powerful city, with a strong army that helped them become famous and respected.

Sadly, this amazing city didn't last forever. After many years of being a powerful capital, other people from far away came and conquered Tenochtitlan. They were called the Spanish. They changed the city a lot, and eventually, it became the city we know today as Mexico City. But the memory of Tenochtitlan, the incredible city on the water, lives on!
