Welcome to Costa Rica!

Costa Rica is a beautiful country tucked between two big oceans, the Pacific and the Caribbean Sea. It's like a long, skinny playground bordered by Nicaragua to the north and Panama to the south. Even though it's not super big, about 5 million people call it home!

The capital city, San José, is where most of the action happens, with lots of people living there and even more in the areas around it. It's a place full of amazing nature and friendly faces.

A Long, Long Time Ago...

People have lived in Costa Rica for thousands of years, way before anyone remembers! Then, explorers from Spain arrived and made it part of their empire. For a long time, it was a Spanish colony.

But in 1821, Costa Rica decided it wanted to be its own country! It joined with other nearby countries for a while, but eventually, it became the independent nation we know today. It's been through a lot to become the special place it is.

No Army? Wow!

Here's something super cool about Costa Rica: it doesn't have an army! After a little bit of trouble a long time ago, they decided to get rid of their army forever. Instead, they spend that money on making sure everyone gets a good education and has healthcare. They believe in peace and taking care of their people. This makes Costa Rica a very special and safe place to live.

Happy People, Happy Planet!

Costa Ricans are known for being very happy! They even have a saying, 'Pura Vida,' which means 'pure life.' They love nature and try to protect it. They also spend a lot of money on schools, making sure every child can learn. Because they care so much about their people and the planet, Costa Rica is a wonderful example for the rest of the world.
