Family Farm tour - Skagit Fall 06 - 35

Key Facts
What's Growing On?
Farming is like a giant garden where people grow plants and raise animals to eat. Imagine planting a tiny seed and watching it grow into a big, juicy tomato or a tall stalk of corn! Farmers also take care of animals like cows for milk and chickens for eggs.
It's a super important job because it gives us all the food we need to be strong and healthy. Without farmers, our plates would be pretty empty!
From Caves to Cornfields!
A super long time ago, people didn't farm. They hunted animals and gathered berries. But then, they learned how to plant seeds and grow their own food! This was a HUGE change. It meant people could stay in one place and build villages. Over thousands of years, farming got smarter and bigger, helping more and more people live together. It’s like going from a small playground to a whole city!
Why Farmers are Superheroes!
Farmers are like superheroes because they feed everyone! Think about how many people live on Earth. All of them need food every single day.
Farmers work hard, even when it's hot or rainy, to make sure there's enough food for all of us. They grow fruits, vegetables, grains like wheat for bread, and raise animals for meat and dairy. It’s a big responsibility, and we should thank them for their amazing work!
How the Magic Happens!
Farming starts with the soil, which is like a cozy bed for plants. Farmers prepare the ground, then plant seeds or baby plants. They need to give them water and sunshine, and sometimes special food called fertilizer.
They also protect them from hungry bugs! For animals, farmers build safe homes, give them food and water, and make sure they are healthy. It’s a lot of work, but seeing the food grow is the best reward!
