Imagine a super-adventurous person from Spain named Juan de Garay! He lived a long, long time ago, back when explorers sailed big ships across the ocean. Juan was a bit like a superhero of his time, helping to start new towns in faraway lands.

He was a Spanish conquistador, which means he was a soldier and explorer who traveled to new places for Spain. He was born a very, very long time ago, around the year 1528. That's even before your grandparents' grandparents were born!

Where Did He Come From?

Juan de Garay was from Spain, a country across the big ocean. But guess what? People aren't totally sure exactly where in Spain he was born!

Some think it was a place called Junta de Villalba de Losa, and others think it was near a town called Orduña. It's like not knowing if your friend lives on Elm Street or Oak Street! But Juan felt like he was from a place called Biscay.

He sailed to a land called Peru, which is now a country in South America.

Building New Homes!

Juan de Garay was a super builder! He helped start many new cities in a country we now call Argentina. One of the most important things he did was help start the city of Buenos Aires again in 1580.

Think of it like rebuilding a favorite playground that got a little broken. He made sure it was a good place for people to live. He was also the governor of a city called Asunción, which is in Paraguay today.

He was very busy helping people settle in new places!
