Where Was This Giant Kingdom?

The Viceroyalty of Peru was like a super-duper big playground that used to cover most of South America! It was ruled by Spain, a country across a huge ocean. Its main city, Lima, was like the king's favorite castle. This giant land had tall mountains, deep jungles, and dry deserts, making it a place with many different kinds of weather and landscapes. It was a truly enormous territory!

Who Lived in This Big Land?

Lots and lots of people lived in the Viceroyalty of Peru! Many were native people who had lived there for a very long time. Then, people from Spain came to live there too, bringing their own ways of life. They spoke Spanish, but many also kept their own languages. It was a mix of different cultures, like a big potluck where everyone brings a different dish!

What Did They Do All Day?

People in the Viceroyalty of Peru worked hard! Many were farmers, growing yummy foods like potatoes and corn. Others were miners, digging deep into the mountains to find shiny silver and gold. This silver and gold was super important because Spain wanted it to help their kingdom grow. They traded these treasures with other places, like sending cool toys to friends.

How Was It Ruled?

The King of Spain was in charge, but he couldn't be everywhere! So, he sent a special person called a Viceroy to rule the Viceroyalty of Peru for him. This Viceroy was like the principal of a giant school, making sure everyone followed the rules and that everything ran smoothly. They made decisions from the capital city of Lima, making sure the king's orders were followed.
