Meet the Peacekeepers!

The International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, was like a big, international team of helpers. They came from lots of different countries, all working together. Their main job was to help keep Afghanistan safe and help its people build a new government. Think of it like a big group project at school, but with soldiers from all over the world working to make things better.

A Mission for Safety

ISAF started in a city called Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. Their first job was to make sure everyone in the city was safe so that leaders could start running the country. Later, their job grew bigger, and they helped keep the peace all over Afghanistan. It was like starting with one classroom and then being asked to help the whole school!

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!

At its biggest, ISAF had about 130,000 soldiers, which is more than the number of students in many big high schools! These soldiers came from 42 different countries. The United States sent the most soldiers, but many other countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, and France also sent brave men and women to help.

Passing the Torch

ISAF worked in Afghanistan for many years, from 2001 until 2014. Their goal was always to help Afghanistan become strong enough to protect itself. So, they trained Afghan soldiers and helped build up their own security teams. Finally, ISAF finished its mission, and the Afghan forces took over keeping their country safe.
