What Happened on That Scary Day?

On a sunny morning, September 11, 2001, something terrible happened in the United States. Bad guys, called terrorists, hijacked airplanes. They flew two planes into tall buildings in New York City, making them fall down. Another plane hit a building in Virginia, and a fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. It was a very sad and shocking day for everyone.

Who Was Looking for the Bad Guys?

After the attacks, the United States and many other countries decided they had to stop these terrorists. The leader of the United States at the time was President George W. Bush. He said it was a 'War on Terrorism.' This meant they would try to find and stop groups who wanted to hurt people and cause fear. It was like a big game of tag, but with very serious rules.

Where Did the Hunt Go?

The search for terrorists led to faraway places, especially Afghanistan. This country is high up in the mountains and very different from home. Soldiers from many countries went there to find the people responsible for the attacks. They also looked for other terrorist groups in different parts of the world. It was a long and difficult mission.

Why Does It Matter to Us?

This 'War on Terrorism' changed the world a lot. It made countries work together more to stop bad people. It also meant that airports became much stricter, with more security checks to keep everyone safe. The world learned that even though bad things can happen, people can come together to try and make things better and safer for everyone.
