Venezuela's Big Fight for Freedom!
Key Facts
Why Did They Want to Be Free?
Long, long ago, Venezuela was part of a huge empire ruled by Spain. The people in Venezuela felt like they weren't getting a fair say in how things were run. They saw what was happening in other places and got inspired to make their own rules. It was like wanting to choose your own games at recess instead of always playing someone else's game!
The Big Spark!
One day, the leaders in Venezuela decided they'd had enough! They kicked out the Spanish governor and started their own government, called the Supreme Caracas Junta. This was like the first step in their big adventure. Then, on July 5th, 1811, seven parts of Venezuela officially said, 'We are independent!' This was a huge moment, like declaring your own birthday party theme!
Ups and Downs of the Fight
But winning freedom wasn't easy! There were lots of battles and tough times. An earthquake even shook things up in 1812! A brave leader named Simón Bolívar led his soldiers on an amazing journey to try and win back their freedom. He was super important, like the captain of a winning sports team, helping Venezuela fight for its independence again and again.
Freedom Finally Arrives!
After many years of fighting, Venezuela, along with other countries like Colombia and Ecuador, became part of a bigger country called Gran Colombia. But eventually, Venezuela became its own, totally independent country in 1830. This means they could finally make all their own decisions and be in charge of their own future, like graduating from school and starting your own adventure!
