Where is Peru?
Peru is a super cool country way down in South America, a big continent across the ocean! It has a long coastline along the Pacific Ocean, which is like a giant blue playground. To the north, it touches Ecuador and Colombia.
To the east, it meets Brazil, and to the southeast, it's neighbors with Bolivia. Chile is to the south. Peru is so big, it's the third-largest country in all of South America, which is like having three giant playgrounds all to yourself!
Mountains, Jungles, and Deserts!
Peru is like a land of three different worlds! First, there are the Andes Mountains, which are so tall their tops are covered in snow, like giant ice cream cones. Then, there's the Amazon rainforest, a super green and wet jungle where monkeys swing and colorful birds fly.
And on the coast, it's dry and sunny, like a desert! This amazing mix means Peru has lots of different animals and plants, making it a 'megadiverse' country!
Ancient Super-Civilizations!
Long, long ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, amazing people lived in Peru! They built incredible cities and had smart ideas. One of the oldest was the Caral-Supe civilization, which is super old, like, the oldest in the Americas!
Later, the Incas built a huge empire, famous for their amazing stone cities like Machu Picchu. These ancient people left behind mysteries and treasures that scientists are still learning about today!
A Land of Many Voices and Flavors!
People in Peru speak Spanish, but many also speak ancient languages like Quechua and Aymara. This mix of people and languages makes Peru's culture super special. They have delicious food that mixes old traditions with new ideas, and people all over the world love to eat it!
Peru is also a place where people work hard in jobs like mining, farming, and fishing, helping to make their country strong and exciting.
