Key Facts
The Gigantic Green Blanket!
The Amazon rainforest is like a giant, super-green blanket covering a huge part of South America. It's so big that it stretches across nine different countries! Most of this amazing forest is in Brazil, but parts of it are also in Peru, Colombia, and other countries. It's a very wet and warm place, perfect for millions of plants and animals to live.
A Home for Everyone!
More than 30 million people live in the Amazon! That's more people than live in some big cities. Many of these people are from indigenous groups who have lived there for a very, very long time and have special traditions. They know the forest like the back of their hand! It’s also home to about 390 billion trees, which is a number so big it’s hard to imagine!
Why the Amazon is Super Important!
This amazing rainforest is like the lungs of our planet. The trees help make the air we breathe clean. It's also home to more kinds of plants and animals than almost anywhere else on Earth! Think of all the colorful birds, sneaky jaguars, and tiny insects – they all live here. If the Amazon disappears, it would be bad for everyone on Earth.
What's Happening in the Forest?
Sadly, some of the Amazon rainforest is being cut down, which is called deforestation. This is like taking away homes for animals and people, and it can make the air not as clean. Scientists and people who live there are working hard to protect this special place so it can stay healthy for a long, long time.
