Long Island

Long Island is a super long island in New York, sticking out into the big Atlantic Ocean. It's so big that it's the largest island in the whole United States that's connected to the mainland! It's like a giant playground that stretches for 118 miles, which is longer than 200 football fields lined up end-to-end.

It's also pretty wide, about 23 miles across at its widest part. That's like going from your school to a faraway park and back again!

Guess what? Millions and millions of people call Long Island home! It's the most crowded island in the entire United States. If you put all the people living there together, it's more than 8 million! That's like filling up every seat in a giant stadium, then filling up another giant stadium, and then another, and another! It's a really busy place with lots of different kinds of people.

Long Island has sandy beaches perfect for building sandcastles and playing in the waves. It also has big green parks and forests where you can explore. You can see the ocean on one side and a big bay called Long Island Sound on the other. It's a place where people live, work, and play, and it's super important for the big city of New York nearby.

Long Island is famous for lots of cool things. It has two of the busiest airports in the whole country, where airplanes take off and land all the time! It also has a super-fast train that lots of people use to get to work. Plus, there are amazing places where scientists do important work to discover new things and help people.
