Where is Connecticut?

Imagine a cozy corner in the northeastern United States. That's where Connecticut is! It's like a friendly neighbor to Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New York.

To its south, it has a big watery friend called Long Island Sound, perfect for boats and beaches. Connecticut is one of the smallest states, but it's packed with interesting places and people. Its capital city is Hartford, and the biggest city is Bridgeport.

It's a special place nestled between two super busy cities, New York City and Boston.

Connecticut's Awesome River!

Connecticut gets its name from a super long river called the Connecticut River. It's the longest river in all of New England! This river cuts the state almost in half, flowing all the way to Long Island Sound.

Long, long ago, Native American tribes called this river 'Quinnetuket,' which means 'long tidal river.' That's because the water moves back and forth with the ocean tides. It's like the river is breathing!

A State with a Super Constitution!

Did you know Connecticut is called the 'Constitution State'? This is because it helped write some of the first important rules for how America should be run. Back in 1639, people in Connecticut wrote down rules called the Fundamental Orders.

Many people think these were like the very first written constitution in the whole Western world! Connecticut was also one of the first 13 colonies to say 'no' to the King of England and help start the United States.

What Do People Do in Connecticut?

Connecticut is a busy place! Many people work in important jobs like making airplanes and helicopters. Big companies like Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky Aircraft are headquartered here.

It's also known for its smart people and great schools, like Yale University. For a long time, Connecticut was famous for making things like clocks and hardware. Now, many people work in jobs related to money and insurance, especially in cities like Hartford.
