Meet the Giant Mountains!

The Scottish Highlands are like a giant playground made of mountains! They are in the very north of Scotland, a country in the United Kingdom. These mountains are super tall, with the highest one, Ben Nevis, being taller than 10 giraffes stacked on top of each other!

The land is also cut by a big crack called the Great Glen, which separates different mountain ranges. It's a very wild and beautiful place.

A Land of Old Stories

Long, long ago, people called the Picts lived here. Later, a group called the Gaels came and made this their home. Their language, Scottish Gaelic, is still spoken by some people today. The Highlands have seen many changes, with people sometimes moving away to find new homes in other countries like Canada or Australia. It's a place with a long and interesting past.

Who Lives in the Highlands?

Not many people live in the Highlands because the mountains and wild land make it tricky to build lots of towns. It's much emptier than other parts of Scotland. The people who do live there are very proud of their special culture and traditions. They have their own unique way of life, connected to the land and its history.

What Do People Do There?

Because it's so wild, many people work with nature. Some look after the special pine forests, which are like a tiny bit of a faraway cold forest called taiga. Others might work with sheep or in tourism, showing visitors the amazing scenery. It's a place where people live closely with the natural world around them.
