Fun Fact
Rhodesia declared itself an independent country but wasn't recognized by most other countries in the world!

Where in the World Was Rhodesia?

Rhodesia was a country way down in Southern Africa, like a secret hideaway! It didn't have any oceans touching it, so it was landlocked. Think of it like being in the middle of a giant playground with no way out to the street.

It was surrounded by other countries like South Africa and Zambia. Its biggest cities were Salisbury, which is now called Harare, and Bulawayo. It was a place with wide-open spaces and lots of sunshine!

A Country That Made a Big Decision!

Once upon a time, Rhodesia was a British colony, like a kid living with their parents. But in 1965, the grown-ups in charge of Rhodesia decided they wanted to be independent and make their own rules, just like a teenager wanting more freedom! They declared independence all by themselves.

This was a big deal, and not everyone agreed with it. It was like deciding to start your own club without asking the main school first!

Who Lived There?

Lots of different people lived in Rhodesia. Most of the people were Black Africans, but a smaller group of white people from Europe were in charge. This caused some problems because the people in charge wanted to keep things the way they were, while many others wanted changes.

They spoke different languages, like Shona and English, and had different traditions. It was a mix of cultures, like a big potluck dinner with many different dishes!

What Did They Do?

People in Rhodesia worked hard to make their country run. They farmed the land, growing things like tobacco and corn. Some people worked in mines, digging up important minerals.

They traded these things with other countries to get what they needed. The government was like the teacher in charge of the classroom, making rules and decisions. But because not everyone agreed, there were some disagreements and even a bit of a fight.
