Manhattan

Manhattan is a super special island that's part of New York City. It's the smallest in size but has the MOST people living there, all squished together! It's like a giant playground filled with skyscrapers that reach for the clouds. This island is the heart of New York City, where lots of important things happen, like big business deals and amazing shows.

A super long time ago, the land where Manhattan is now belonged to the Lenape people. Then, people from the Netherlands came and built a little town called New Amsterdam. Later, the English took over and renamed it New York. Over many years, it grew and grew, becoming the busy place we know today, with famous spots like the Statue of Liberty welcoming visitors.

Manhattan is famous for so many things! It's where you find Wall Street, which is like the grown-up version of a busy marketplace for money. It has incredible parks like Central Park, where you can run and play, and super tall buildings like the Empire State Building. It's also a place where people from all over the world come to visit and experience exciting culture and entertainment.

This amazing island is surrounded by three rivers: the Hudson, the East, and the Harlem River. It's divided into three main parts: Lower Manhattan, Midtown, and Upper Manhattan. Even though it's small, it's packed with over 1.6 million people! That's more people than in many whole countries, all living on this one island.
