Who's in Charge of India?

Imagine India is like a giant, busy playground! The Prime Minister is like the super-helper who makes sure everything runs smoothly. They are the chief executive, which means they are the main boss of the government.

Even though the President is like the official greeter, the Prime Minister is the one who makes the big decisions and leads a team called the Council of Ministers. They are chosen by the people and have to be really good at their job!

The Very First Leader!

The very first Prime Minister of India was a man named Jawaharlal Nehru. He started leading India way back in 1947, even before you were born! He was the leader for a super long time, until 1964. That's longer than you've been alive! He was so important that his family has had Prime Ministers too. It's like a special leadership club!

Wow! The First Lady Leader!

Guess what? India had its very first female Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi! She was Jawaharlal Nehru's daughter. She was a very strong leader. Later, her son Rajiv Gandhi became Prime Minister too, and he was the youngest one ever! It shows that anyone can be a leader, no matter if they are a boy or a girl.

Lots of Leaders, Lots of Stories!

India has had 14 Prime Ministers so far. Some leaders were in charge for a long time, and some were only there for a short while, like a quick game of tag! Some leaders came from one big political party, and others came from different groups working together. Each Prime Minister has their own special story about how they helped India grow.
