Who Was This Amazing Leader?

Imagine a super-smart helper for a whole country! That was Lal Bahadur Shastri. He was born a long, long time ago, in 1904. He loved helping people, especially those who needed it most. He even dropped his last name to show he was equal to everyone! He believed in making India a better place for everyone.

From School Kid to Country Leader!

Lal Bahadur Shastri wasn't always a leader. He went to school, just like you! But he was so inspired by a famous leader named Mahatma Gandhi that he decided to join a big movement to make India free. He was so good at organizing and helping that he became a very important person in the government, even becoming the Prime Minister of India!

Making India Stronger and Tastier!

When Lal Bahadur Shastri became Prime Minister, he had big ideas! He wanted more yummy milk for everyone, so he helped start something called the White Revolution. He also wanted more food to grow in India, so he helped with the Green Revolution. This meant farmers could grow lots more food, like wheat and rice, to feed everyone!

A Brave Leader in Tough Times!

Sometimes, countries have disagreements. Lal Bahadur Shastri was the leader of India when there was a war with Pakistan in 1965. He was very brave and encouraged everyone with his famous saying, 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan!' which means 'Hooray for the soldier, hooray for the farmer!' He helped India stay strong.
