Who Was Rajiv Gandhi?

Imagine being a pilot who flies planes for a living, but then suddenly you have to lead a whole country! That's what happened to Rajiv Gandhi. He was born a long time ago, in 1944, in a city called Bombay in India. He wasn't related to the famous Mahatma Gandhi, but he came from a very important family that loved helping India. His grandfather was even the first Prime Minister!

From Flying High to Leading Big!

Rajiv loved flying and became a pilot for Indian Airlines. He was married and had two children, and he liked to stay out of politics. But then, something very sad happened. His mother, who was the Prime Minister, was tragically killed. Because of this, Rajiv had to step up and become the Prime Minister himself. He was only 40 years old, making him the youngest Prime Minister India ever had!

A Leader for India

As Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi worked hard to make India a better place. He wanted to bring new technology and make things more modern. He also tried to make peace with other countries. Sometimes leading a country is tricky, and he faced some big challenges, like helping people after a terrible accident in a city called Bhopal. He also sent soldiers to help a country called Sri Lanka.

A Sad Ending, But a Lasting Mark

Even after he was no longer Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi kept working for his country. Sadly, while he was helping his political party get ready for an election, he was killed by a terrible bomb. This was a very sad day for India. Even though he is gone, people remember him for his time as a pilot and as a leader who wanted to help India grow.
