Key Facts
Splashy Superstars!
Imagine Canada is like a giant bathtub, and it's filled with more lakes than you can count! There are over 31,000 lakes that are bigger than a big playground. Some of these lakes are so enormous, they are part of the famous Great Lakes, which are like super-sized swimming pools for countries! Canada's lakes cover almost 9% of the whole country, which is a LOT of water!
Where Did All This Water Come From?
Long, long ago, giant ice monsters called glaciers stomped all over Canada. These glaciers were like super heavy bulldozers, carving out huge dips and holes in the land. When the ice melted, all that water filled up those dips, creating the amazing lakes we see today. It’s like the glaciers left behind giant puddles that never dried up!
Why Lakes are Awesome!
Lakes are super important for everyone and everything! They give us fresh water to drink, which is like nature's juice box. Fish and other animals call the lakes their home, swimming and playing all day. People also love to visit lakes to swim, boat, and have fun. They make Canada a beautiful and exciting place!
Super Lakes to Know!
Some of Canada's lakes are so big, they are shared with other countries, like the famous Great Lakes! Lake Superior is one of the biggest freshwater lakes in the whole world. It's so large, it's like having a small ocean right in Canada. These giant lakes are like watery highways for boats and homes for many creatures.
