Interior Plains

The Interior Plains are like a super-duper big, flat playground that covers a huge part of North America. It’s so wide, it goes from the warm Gulf of Mexico all the way up to the chilly Arctic Ocean! Think of it as a giant, mostly flat area where you could ride your bike for days and days without seeing many hills. It’s a very important place for many plants and animals, and even for us!

Even though it looks flat, the ground under the Interior Plains is actually made of very old, hard rock. This rock is like a giant, ancient foundation. Over millions of years, wind and water have smoothed out the land on top, making it nice and flat. It’s like how a baker might smooth out frosting on a cake, but this cake is as big as a continent!

This giant flat land is super important because it’s where a lot of our food grows! The soil is very rich, which is perfect for growing crops like wheat and corn. It’s also where we find important things like oil and natural gas that help power our homes and cars. So, the Interior Plains help feed us and keep our lights on!

Because the Interior Plains are so flat and wide, you can see for miles and miles! This means you get amazing views of the sky, with big, fluffy clouds and beautiful sunsets.
