Lemon

Imagine a fruit that's bright yellow and smells super fresh. That's a lemon! It's shaped like an oval, kind of like a tiny egg. Inside, it's filled with juicy little sacs that hold its special sour juice. Lemons grow on trees, and they are part of a big family of fruits called citrus. They are smaller than a grown-up's hand, but they pack a big punch of flavor!

Lemons didn't always live in our kitchens. They first grew in a place called Asia, a very long time ago, maybe even before your grandparents were born! People traveled and traded, and they brought lemon seeds with them to new places. Over many years, lemons traveled all around the world, from Asia to Europe and then to the Americas. Now, you can find them in grocery stores everywhere!

Lemons are like little superheroes in the kitchen! Their sour juice is amazing for making lemonade, which is super refreshing on a hot day. Chefs use lemon juice to add a zingy taste to their food, like fish or chicken. It can also help keep apples from turning brown! Plus, lemons have lots of vitamin C, which is good for your body and helps you stay healthy.

What makes a lemon taste so sour? It's a special acid inside, like citric acid. This acid is what gives lemons their unique tartness.

When you squeeze a lemon, you get that wonderful juice. The peel, or rind, is also super useful. It has tiny little bumps that hold fragrant oils, which smell amazing and can be used to make things taste even better.
