Key Facts
Meet Emperor Hadrian!
Hadrian was a super important leader in the Roman Empire a long, long time ago, from 117 to 138 AD. He was born in a place that is now Spain, but he became the emperor of a huge land that included Italy, Greece, and even parts of Britain! He was part of a special Roman family called the Nerva-Antonine dynasty. Hadrian loved to travel and see all the different places in his empire.
His Amazing Adventures
Hadrian didn't just sit in his palace. He visited almost every single part of the Roman Empire! He was like a super-tourist emperor. He loved to see how things were built and even helped with building projects. He rebuilt a famous building in Rome called the Pantheon, which still stands today. It has a giant hole in the roof called an oculus, letting in sunlight!
The Famous Wall Builder
One of the most famous things Hadrian did was build a giant wall in Britain. It was called Hadrian's Wall, and it stretched for miles and miles, like a super long fence! This wall was built to mark the edge of the Roman Empire in the north. It was so big, it was like building a wall as tall as a 3-story building and as long as 700 football fields!
A Friend to Greece
Hadrian really loved the culture and art of ancient Greece. He thought Athens was the coolest city for learning and art. He even had a very special friend named Antinous, who was a young Greek man. When Antinous sadly passed away, Hadrian was very sad and created statues and temples to remember him. He was a very interesting and sometimes mysterious emperor!
