Expulsion of the Loyalists

During a big fight called the American Revolution, some people in America still loved the King of England. These people were called Loyalists. It was like picking teams, and they picked Team King! The other team, the Patriots, wanted America to be its own country. Many Loyalists had to pack their bags and leave their homes because they weren't welcome anymore after the war.

When the war ended, many Loyalists had to find new places to live. It was like moving to a new town, but much farther away! About 60,000 white Loyalists left the new United States. Some went to Canada, which was still part of the British Empire. Others sailed all the way across the ocean to Great Britain, or even to places like Florida.

The British government offered the Loyalists land in places like Canada to start over. Imagine getting a whole new playground just for you! Many Loyalists, including families who had been in America for a long time, moved to places like Nova Scotia and Quebec. They brought their belongings and even their enslaved people with them to build new lives.

Leaving your home is tough! Loyalists had to say goodbye to their friends, their schools, and the places they knew. Sometimes, the Patriots took their stuff, like their houses and farms. It was a sad time for many, but they were brave and started fresh in new lands, hoping for a better future.
