Key Facts
Where is Erfurt?
Erfurt is a special city in the middle of Germany, like the cherry on top of a cake! It sits in a big, flat valley next to the Gera River. It's not too far from mountains called the Thuringian Forest. Think of Erfurt as being right in the middle of a line of six big cities, all friends in a row. It's also super close to the very center of Germany, like a bullseye on a target!
Stepping Back in Time!
Erfurt is like a time machine! Its old town looks almost the same as it did hundreds of years ago, with old buildings and winding streets. There's a famous bridge called the Merchants' Bridge, and guess what? Houses are built right on top of it! It’s like a street that floats on water. Imagine living in a house on a bridge – how cool is that?
Amazing Buildings and Bells!
On a big hill in Erfurt, you'll find two amazing buildings: a grand cathedral and a tall church. The cathedral has the biggest medieval bell in the whole world that can swing freely! It’s so big, it’s like a giant’s dinner bell. There's also a super old synagogue, which is a special place for Jewish people to pray. It’s so old, it’s the oldest one in all of Europe!
What Do People Do There?
People in Erfurt grow yummy fruits and vegetables, and they also work with tiny computer parts called microelectronics. Because Erfurt is in the middle of everything, it's a great place for trucks and trains to bring things from all over. They even have a TV channel just for kids called KiKa! Erfurt is also on an old road that people used to travel on for trading and going on adventures.
