Where is Jena?
Jena is a city in Germany, a country far away in Europe. It's in a part of Germany called Thuringia. Jena sits in a wide valley, like a big hug from rolling green hills.
A river called the Saale flows right through it. Because of the rocky ground and special forests, Jena is famous for having lots of different kinds of wild orchids, which are beautiful flowers! It’s like a secret garden hiding in the hills.
A City That Grew Up!
Jena wasn't always a big city. For a long, long time, it was a small town. But then, something amazing happened! In the 1800s, people started making special tools there, like super-powerful magnifying glasses and cameras. These tools were so good that Jena became known all over the world for them! It’s like a small toy shop suddenly becoming famous for making the best video games ever.

Jena is a super smart city! It has a big university where lots of students go to learn. It’s also home to many places where scientists do important research.
Because of all this brainpower, Jena has some very tall buildings, even taller than a playground slide! One of these buildings is called the JenTower, and it looks like a giant pencil sticking out of the city. It all started with the companies that made those amazing lenses.

Even though Jena has tall buildings and lots of smart people, it's also a very green place. The hills around the city are covered in forests, and the Saale river makes it a beautiful spot. Remember those wild orchids?
