Crimea is like a big island, but it's actually a peninsula! That means it's almost all surrounded by water, like the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. It's connected to the land by a tiny strip of land.

Think of it like a giant piece of toast sticking out of a big bowl of soup! A super long bridge, built in 2018, now connects it to Russia, and a narrow strip of land called the Arabat Spit is like a long, skinny finger pointing into the water.

People have lived in Crimea for a very, very long time! Ancient Greeks sailed there and built cities. Later, empires like the Romans and Byzantines came.

Then, different groups of people who loved to ride horses, called steppe nomads, moved in. For a while, it was part of the Ottoman Empire, and then the Russian Empire took over.
