Meet the Giant Blue Playground!

Imagine a giant bathtub that covers most of our planet! That's the sea! It's a HUGE body of salty water. Some seas are like big puddles connected to the giant ocean, like the Mediterranean Sea. Others are almost all the way surrounded by land. The water in the sea is salty because it has tiny bits of salt and other minerals mixed in. It's much saltier than the water you drink!

Who Lives in the Salty Deep?

The sea is like a giant apartment building for tons of amazing creatures! Tiny little bacteria and colorful algae float around. Then there are fish of all shapes and sizes, playful dolphins, and even giant whales!

Some of these animals live near the sunny top, while others explore the super deep, dark, and cold parts where sunlight can't reach. It's like having neighborhoods from the sunny beach all the way to the super dark basement!

The Sea's Superpowers!

Did you know the sea is like Earth's air conditioner? It helps keep our planet from getting too hot or too cold. The wind blowing over the water makes waves, and big ocean currents are like rivers flowing underwater, moving warm and cold water all around the world. The Moon also plays a game of tug-of-war with the sea, pulling the water up and down to make tides!

People and the Sea: Best Friends!

People have loved the sea for a super long time! We get yummy food from it, like fish and shrimp. We also use it to travel to different places on boats and ships. Some people even work underwater, exploring or farming seaweed! But we have to be careful not to make the sea dirty with trash, because it's home to so many wonderful animals.
