The Amazing Sea of Azov!

Imagine a big, watery bathtub connected to an even bigger ocean! The Sea of Azov is like that. It's in Eastern Europe, nestled between Russia and Ukraine.

It's not super deep, making it a bit like a giant puddle compared to other seas. It's connected to the Black Sea by a tiny watery doorway called the Strait of Kerch. Rivers like the Don and Kuban pour fresh water into it, making it a special mix of salty and fresh!

This sea is the shallowest in the whole world! It's only as deep as a tall slide at the playground, about 14 meters (46 feet) at its deepest. Rivers bring lots of sand and tiny shells, which build up on the bottom, keeping it flat and shallow. It’s like building a sandcastle at the beach, but underwater! This shallow, river-filled water is perfect for tiny plants and animals called plankton.

Because of all the yummy plankton, the Sea of Azov is like a giant buffet for fish! It's one of the most productive seas on Earth, meaning it has tons of fish. Lots of birds also love to visit and make their homes on the shores and little sandy islands. The water can even change colors because of all the green plants growing in it. It’s a bustling place full of life!

The Sea of Azov is super important because it's like a watery highway. Boats can travel from here to other places, like the Caspian Sea, using special canals.
