Meet Emperor Caracalla!

Caracalla was a Roman emperor a super long time ago, from 198 to 217 AD. He was born a prince and became emperor after his dad, Septimius Severus. He had a brother named Geta, but Caracalla became the boss all by himself.

He was known for being a soldier first and an emperor second, which meant he liked being out with the army. He made some big changes in the Roman Empire, some good and some not so good.

A Special Gift for Everyone!

One of the coolest things Caracalla did was give almost all the free people in the Roman Empire a special present: Roman citizenship! This was like getting a special badge that meant they were part of Rome. He even gave them his own special name, Marcus Aurelius. This made lots of people feel more connected to the empire. It was a huge deal because before, only some people were citizens.

Giant Baths and New Coins!

Caracalla also built amazing places, like the Baths of Caracalla. These were enormous public bathhouses where people could relax, exercise, and hang out. They were so big they were like a giant playground for grown-ups! He also created a new kind of Roman coin that was worth more than the old ones. But he also ordered some sad and scary things to happen, like people being hurt or killed.

An Emperor's End

Caracalla was getting ready to fight a war in a faraway land called Parthia. But sadly, he never finished the fight. A soldier who was unhappy with him ended up hurting him, and Caracalla died in 217 AD. After he was gone, another emperor named Macrinus took over. Even though he did some big things, Caracalla is remembered as a very strong and sometimes scary emperor.
