Key Facts
Who Were the Romans?
Have you ever heard of Rome? It's a super old city in Italy! The people who lived there a long, long time ago were called Romans. They built amazing things and had a huge empire that stretched all over the place. Think of it like a giant playground that they controlled! They were famous for their strong armies and clever ideas.
When Did They Live?
The Romans started their adventure a super long time ago, around 800 BC. That's even before your grandparents' grandparents were born! They were around for about 1,200 years, which is a really, really long time. Imagine if your school existed for more than a thousand years! They were around until about 400 AD. That's a whole lot of history!
What Did They Build?
Romans were builders extraordinaire! They built roads that were so strong, some are still around today. They also built huge buildings like the Colosseum, where people watched gladiator fights. These buildings were often much bigger than your school! They even invented concrete, which is like super-strong playdough that they used to build amazing structures.
Why Should We Care?
Even though the Romans lived so long ago, we still use some of their ideas today! They invented things like aqueducts, which are like giant water slides for carrying water to cities. Many of our laws and even some words we use come from the Romans. They were like the original inventors of many cool things we have now!
