Macrinus

Macrinus was a Roman emperor, like a king, but for a super-duper long time ago! He was in charge of the giant Roman Empire. He wasn't born into a royal family like some emperors. Instead, he worked his way up. He was the first emperor who didn't come from a fancy family of senators. He was also the first emperor who never even got to visit the city of Rome while he was emperor!

Macrinus became emperor while he was in the eastern part of the Roman Empire. This was super far away from Rome, the capital city. Because he was so far away, he never got to go back to Rome during his whole time as emperor. It would be like being the principal of your school but living in a different country and never visiting the school building!

When Macrinus became emperor, the Roman Empire was having money problems and was fighting with other places. He tried to make peace with everyone and fix the money issues. He was like a superhero trying to save the day! But his plans made some of the Roman soldiers unhappy because they had to pay more money.

Because some soldiers were unhappy, a new plan was made to put someone else in charge. Macrinus had to leave his job as emperor after only a little while. He tried to run away, but he was caught. Sadly, he and his son were executed. It's a sad story, but it shows how tricky being an emperor could be!
