Who Was President Harrison?
Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd president of the United States, serving from 1889 to 1893. Imagine a president who was related to another president! Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of William Henry Harrison, the 9th president.
He was also a brave soldier in the Civil War, fighting for the Union. He was a Republican and won the election against Grover Cleveland. He was born on a farm and loved to read and learn, going to college and becoming a lawyer.

Before becoming president, Benjamin Harrison was a lawyer in Indiana. He was also a leader in his church. During the Civil War, he became a colonel in the army, leading soldiers into battle.
After the war, he served in the United States Senate, which is like being a super-important advisor for the whole country. He was elected president in 1888, winning more votes in the Senate's choice, even though more people voted for the other guy!
Making New Rules for America
As president, Benjamin Harrison helped make important new laws. One law, called the McKinley Tariff, made it harder for things from other countries to be sold in America, which helped American businesses. He also helped create national forests, like big parks for animals and trees.

After being president, Benjamin Harrison went back to being a lawyer. He even helped a country called Venezuela with a big argument it had with the United Kingdom. He was a very hard worker and people thought he was honest. Even though his time as president wasn't super exciting, he did a lot of important things, like helping to make laws and protecting nature. He died in 1901.
