Meet President Grover!

Grover Cleveland was a very special president because he was the 22nd and then later the 24th president of the United States! He was the first person ever to do that. He was a Democrat, and he was the first Democrat president elected after a big war called the Civil War.

He was born in a place called Caldwell, New Jersey. He was a mayor and then a governor before becoming president. He was known for being honest and fair.

A President Who Came Back!

Grover Cleveland was president from 1885 to 1889. But then, he lost the next election, even though more people voted for him! It was like being the most popular kid in class but not getting picked for the team.

He went back to being a lawyer. But guess what? People wanted him back, and he won the election again in 1893!

So he served again until 1897. It’s like getting a second chance to be the class president!

Making Big Changes!

When Grover Cleveland was president, he helped make new rules. He signed a law that made sure railroads were treated fairly. He also signed a law about Native American land.

It divided up land that was shared by everyone in a tribe into pieces for each person. This meant Native Americans ended up with much less land over time. He also believed in being careful with money and not spending too much.

Why Grover Was Special

Grover Cleveland was a president who really cared about honesty and doing the right thing. He fought against people being unfair in government jobs. Some people who were Republicans even voted for him because they thought he was so honest!

He also didn't like the United States taking over other countries. He even investigated when a queen was overthrown in Hawaii and thought she should get her country back. He was a president who stood up for his beliefs.
