Where is Arkansas?

Imagine a giant puzzle piece in the United States! Arkansas is a landlocked state, which means it doesn't touch any oceans. It's like a cozy spot surrounded by other states.

To its north is Missouri, and to the east are Tennessee and Mississippi. South of Arkansas is Louisiana, and Texas is to the southwest. To the west, you'll find Oklahoma.

It's a place with lots of different kinds of land, from tall mountains to flat river valleys.

Mountains and Rivers Galore!

Arkansas has some super cool natural features! It's home to the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains, which are part of a big area called the U.S. Interior Highlands.

These mountains are like giant, bumpy blankets covering parts of the state. In other parts, especially in the south, there are thick forests called the Arkansas Timberlands. And don't forget the eastern side, where the mighty Mississippi River flows, creating flat lands perfect for growing crops.

A Long, Long Time Ago...

People have lived in Arkansas for thousands of years! The name 'Arkansas' comes from a Native American language and tells us about the Quapaw people who lived there. Later, explorers from France and other countries came.

Arkansas became a state a very long time ago, in 1836. It was a place where cotton was grown a lot, and sadly, many people were forced to work without pay. Arkansas was also part of a big fight called the Civil War.

What Do People Do in Arkansas?

Today, Arkansas is a busy place! Its capital city is Little Rock, which is like the heart of the state. People in Arkansas work in many different jobs, like making airplanes, raising chickens, and growing crops like rice and soybeans. It's also famous for being the home of Walmart, one of the biggest stores in the whole world! People also enjoy visiting the beautiful mountains and rivers for fun.
