Key Facts
Meet the Land of Ice Mountains!
The Arctic Cordillera is like a super long, bumpy mountain range way up in northern Canada. It's so big it stretches along the coast, with tall, pointy peaks that are covered in ice and snow all year round. Think of it as Canada's icy crown!
Some of these mountains are so high, they poke through giant fields of ice, like enormous ice cream scoops on top of the world. It's a very cold and wild place!
What's it Like When It's Cold?
Brrr! The Arctic Cordillera is freezing! In the summer, it's still chilly, like a cool autumn day, with temperatures around 6 degrees Celsius.
But in winter, it gets super cold, down to -16 degrees Celsius. That's colder than your freezer! Because it's so cold and covered in ice and snow, not many plants can grow.
It's mostly just rocks and ice, which makes it a very special kind of home for the animals that live there.
Who Lives in This Icy Place?
Even though it's so cold, about 1000 people call the Arctic Cordillera home! Most of them are Inuit, who are very good at living in snowy places. They have special ways to stay warm and find food.
Imagine living where it's snowy most of the time! The land is mostly ice and rocks, about 75% of it! This means there isn't much room for forests or farms, but it's a perfect home for animals that love the cold.
Adventures in the Arctic!
The Arctic Cordillera is full of amazing icy sights. You can find huge ice caps, which are like giant frozen blankets covering the land. There are also deep, watery valleys called fjords that cut into the land, filled with cold ocean water.
It's a place of big water and big ice. Exploring here is like an adventure in a real-life winter wonderland, with amazing views of mountains and ice everywhere you look!
