Meet the Giant Land!

Nunavut is a super-duper big place in Canada, way up north! It's the biggest territory in the whole country. Think of it like a giant playground that stretches farther than you can run. It has lots of islands, like stepping stones in the ocean, and some of them are really, really far north, even past where polar bears like to play.

When Did This Big Place Start?

Nunavut is a newer part of Canada. It officially became its own place on April 1, 1999. Before that, it was part of a bigger area called the Northwest Territories. It was like getting your own special room in the house! This big change happened so that the Inuit people, who have lived there for a very long time, could have their own government and make their own decisions.

Who Lives in This Snowy Land?

Most of the people who live in Nunavut are Inuit. They have lived in the Arctic for thousands of years and know all about surviving in the cold. They are amazing storytellers and have beautiful traditions. The capital city is called Iqaluit, and it's on a big island called Baffin Island. It's like the main house in this giant land.

What's it Like in Nunavut?

Nunavut is very cold and snowy for most of the year. It's a place with lots of ice and snow, but also amazing wildlife like polar bears, seals, and whales. Because it's so big and there aren't many people, it's the least crowded place in the world! It's like having a whole park to yourself. The sun also does funny things, sometimes staying up for days in the summer!
