Key Facts
Where is Alabama?
Imagine a big puzzle piece in the United States. That's Alabama! It's in the southeastern part, like a cozy corner.
To the north, it tickles Tennessee, and to the east, it waves hello to Georgia. Down south, it meets Florida and the big, blue Gulf of Mexico. On the west, it's neighbors with Mississippi.
Alabama is a pretty big place, the 30th largest in the whole country! That's like having a playground that's 30 soccer fields long!
Nature's Playground!
Alabama has all sorts of cool places. In the north, you'll find rolling hills and valleys, like a giant's bumpy backyard. Down south, it's all about the water, with Mobile Bay being a super important spot for boats.
The weather can be warm and sunny, perfect for playing outside. Sometimes, you might even see a yellowhammer bird, which is Alabama's special state bird and looks like a little yellow hammer flying!
A Peek into the Past!
Long, long ago, Native American tribes lived in Alabama. Then, explorers from Spain and France came to visit and started towns. One of the oldest cities, Mobile, was started by the French way back in 1702!
Alabama became a state in 1819, which is a super long time ago. It was also a big place for growing cotton, and sadly, many people were forced to work there. Later, Alabama was part of big changes in the country, like the Civil Rights Movement, which helped make things fairer for everyone.
What Do People Do There?
People in Alabama do lots of different jobs! They build cars, work in hospitals, and even help send rockets into space because there's a NASA center there! They also love to play and watch American football. Alabama's capital city is Montgomery, but its biggest city is Huntsville. It's a place with a mix of old and new, where people work hard and have fun traditions.
