The Big Race Across America!
In 2004, the United States held a super important election to pick its leader, the President! It was like a big game played all over the country. Two main teams, or parties, competed.
One was the Republican team, with President George W. Bush trying to win again. The other was the Democratic team, with Senator John Kerry hoping to win.
People all over the USA voted for who they thought would be the best leader for the next four years. It was a very close race!
Who Were the Star Players?
The Republican team had President George W. Bush and his friend Vice President Dick Cheney. They wanted to stay in charge for another term.
The Democratic team had Senator John Kerry, who was a big star in his party. He picked Senator John Edwards to be his teammate. Both teams had to work hard to convince voters they were the right choice.
It was like choosing captains for a huge school project, but for the whole country!
What Was the Big Talk?
A lot of things were talked about during this election! The country was thinking a lot about wars happening far away, like in Iraq. President Bush said he was a strong leader, and he said Senator Kerry changed his mind a lot.
Senator Kerry said he voted to start the war but didn't like how it was being run. People also talked about jobs, healthcare, and other important things happening right at home. It was a big decision for everyone!
And the Winner Is...!
After all the votes were counted, President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney won! They got more votes and won the chance to lead the country for another four years. It was a very close win, like winning a game by just one point! They won in many states, especially in the South. This election showed how much people cared about who would lead them.
