Where is Ohio?

Ohio is a cool state in the middle of the United States, like a cozy spot in a big quilt. It has a big lake called Lake Erie on its north side, perfect for splashing and boating. To its east, it bumps into Pennsylvania, and to its south, it meets West Virginia and Kentucky along a winding river.

Indiana is to its west, and Michigan is up in the northwest corner. It's not the biggest state, but it's packed with fun things to discover!

A Land of Old and New!

Long, long ago, even before your grandparents' grandparents were born, people lived in Ohio! They built amazing things and had interesting lives. Then, explorers and settlers came, and Ohio became one of the very first states in the whole country. It was like being the 17th kid to join a super-secret club! This made Ohio a really important place right from the start.

Meet the Buckeyes!

Ohio is called the 'Buckeye State' because of a special tree called the Ohio buckeye. These trees have shiny brown nuts that look like a buck's eye! People from Ohio are called 'Buckeyes' too. It's like everyone gets a cool nickname! Ohio is also famous because seven presidents of the United States were born there. That's more than almost any other state!

What Do People Do in Ohio?

People in Ohio work in all sorts of jobs. They build cars, make things in factories, and help run businesses. It's a busy place! The biggest city, Columbus, is like a bustling playground with lots of people and exciting things to see. Other big cities like Cleveland and Cincinnati are also full of life and fun adventures waiting to happen.
