Key Facts
Where is New Hampshire?
Imagine a map of the United States. New Hampshire is in the top-right corner, in a part called New England. It's like a cozy corner of the country!
To its south is Massachusetts, and to its west is Vermont. On the east, it touches Maine and the big, blue Gulf of Maine. Way up north, it even says hello to Canada!
It's a smaller state, but it's packed with amazing things to see and do, from tall mountains to pretty lakes.
Rocky Mountains and Leafy Trees!
New Hampshire is famous for its nickname, 'The Granite State,' because it has lots of granite rocks, which are super strong! It also has big, beautiful forests with trees that turn bright colors in the fall, like a giant, colorful painting. In the winter, the mountains get covered in snow, perfect for skiing!
Mount Washington is one of the highest mountains on the East Coast, and it can get very windy up there, even windier than a hurricane!
A State with a Big Voice!
New Hampshire was one of the very first places to say 'We want to be free!' a long, long time ago. It was the first colony to make its own government and write its own rules. That's why its motto is 'Live Free or Die!' It also holds a very important job every four years: it's the first state to let people vote for who they want to be president.
This means New Hampshire gets to help decide who leads the whole country!
Fun Things to Do and See!
People love visiting New Hampshire for all sorts of fun. You can hike up mountains like Mount Monadnock, which lots of people climb every year. In the summer, people swim and play by the lakes. In the winter, it's time for snowboarding and skiing down snowy hills. There are also cool car races and even a big motorcycle gathering! New Hampshire is a place for adventure all year round.
