Thar Desert

The Thar Desert is a super big sandy place in the northwest of India and a little bit in Pakistan. It's so huge, it covers about 4.56% of all the land in India! Most of it is in a state called Rajasthan, which is like a giant sandbox. To the east, there are mountains called the Aravali Range, and to the south, there's another salty area called the Rann of Kutch. It's a land of sunshine and sand!

Get ready for sunshine! The Thar Desert is a hot and dry place, which means it doesn't get much rain. The ground is mostly sand, perfect for building sandcastles, but it can get very, very hot. Sometimes, the sand dunes can be as tall as a two-story building! Even though it's dry, some plants and animals have learned to live here, like tough grasses and lizards that love the heat.

Guess what? Scientists found dinosaur bones in the Thar Desert that are super, super old – about 167 million years ago! These bones belonged to a kind of dinosaur that ate plants. It's like finding a secret message from a time when giant creatures roamed the Earth. This is the oldest dinosaur discovery of its kind ever found in India and even in the whole world!

Even though it's a desert, people live here! They are very strong and know how to find water and grow food in the dry land. They have special traditions and wear colorful clothes to stay cool. They are amazing at living in this sunny, sandy place. Many people speak Hindi, and they have their own unique ways of life that have been passed down for a very long time.
