Welcome to the Jurassic!

The Jurassic period sounds like a dinosaur movie, and it kind of was! It was a super long time ago, from about 201 million years ago to 143 million years ago. That's way, way before even the oldest castles or pyramids were built!

It was the middle part of the 'Age of Dinosaurs,' and it got its name from mountains in Europe called the Jura Mountains. Think of it as a special chapter in Earth's history book, full of incredible creatures and amazing changes.

A World Without Ice!

Picture a world that was much warmer than today, with no snowy ice caps at the top and bottom of the planet! Forests grew even near the North and South Poles. But in other places, it was super dry and dusty. The giant supercontinent called Pangaea started to break apart into two big pieces. This changed the weather and where animals could live. It was a time of big shifts on our planet!

Dinosaur Domination!

In the Jurassic, dinosaurs became the superstars of land animals! They were much bigger and more common than other creatures. But guess what?

The very first birds also started to appear, evolving from a type of dinosaur. So, the next time you see a bird, remember its ancient dinosaur relatives! Also, the first modern frogs, lizards, and even crabs showed up during this time.

It was a busy period for new life!

Giants of the Sky and Sea!

It wasn't just dinosaurs on land! In the sky, amazing flying reptiles called pterosaurs were the bosses. They soared through the air like giant kites.

In the oceans, huge marine reptiles like ichthyosaurs (which looked a bit like dolphins) and plesiosaurs (with long necks) swam around. Even modern sharks and rays first appeared in the seas. The Jurassic was a time of incredible diversity, both on land and in water!
