A Giant Natural Bowl!

The Valley of Mexico is like a huge, natural bowl sitting high up in the mountains of Mexico. It's surrounded by tall mountains and volcanoes, some of them super tall, like a giant hug! This special place used to be filled with five big lakes, all connected like a watery playground.

The biggest lake, Lake Texcoco, was as big as many, many soccer fields put together. It's a place where amazing things happened long, long ago.

Home to Ancient Superstars!

For thousands of years, this valley was a super popular place for people to live. Imagine ancient cities like Teotihuacan, where people built giant pyramids, and the Aztec Empire, famous for its amazing capital city built on an island in a lake! These ancient civilizations loved the valley because it had nice weather, lots of animals to hunt, and good land for growing food.

It was a busy place even before cars or phones existed!

The Lakes Disappear!

Long ago, the Valley of Mexico was full of water. But when people from far away arrived, they started to drain the lakes to build their own big city. They wanted to stop the land from flooding. Over time, the lakes got smaller and smaller until they were mostly gone. Now, instead of lakes, there's a giant, bustling city called Mexico City, which is one of the biggest cities in the whole world!

Living in the Valley Today

Today, millions of people live in the Valley of Mexico. It's a very important place for the country of Mexico. Even though the lakes are gone, people still find ways to live and work there. They built amazing tunnels and canals to manage water. The valley is still a special place, full of history and modern life, all nestled in a beautiful mountain setting.
