San Juan - Carnival Conquest

Key Facts
What's a Conquest?
Conquest is like when a big, strong group of people decides they want to take over the land where another group lives. They might use their army to do it. It's like a game of tag, but with whole countries and sometimes it's not a game at all, but a serious takeover. This has happened a lot throughout history, with powerful groups wanting more land and control.
A Long, Long Time Ago...
Long ago, taking over land was more common. There weren't many rules saying people couldn't do it. Imagine a knight on a horse wanting to claim a whole castle and the land around it. Kings and queens would send their armies to conquer new territories. It was a way for them to become more powerful and get more resources. This happened over and over again in different parts of the world.
Why It's Not So Cool Anymore
Nowadays, taking over another country's land is a big no-no! Around 100 years ago, people started believing that each group of people should have their own country. This idea, called nationalism, made conquering seem unfair.
After big wars, like World War I and World War II, countries made rules together, like in the United Nations, to stop conquests. It's like having a referee to make sure everyone plays fair.
Big Takeovers Are Rare Now
Since the big wars ended, it's become very rare for one country to conquer a huge amount of land from another. Countries have agreed that this isn't okay. However, sometimes smaller pieces of land might still be taken over. It's like how a playground bully might try to take just one swing, but they can't take the whole playground anymore. The world tries hard to prevent these big land grabs.
