Where Did the Mexica Live?

Imagine a big, beautiful valley filled with sparkling lakes! That's where the Mexica people made their home, a place called the Valley of Mexico. It was a special spot with lots of water and good land for growing food. They loved their home so much that they built their most important city right in the middle of a giant lake!

Building a City on Water!

The Mexica were super clever builders. They found an island in a huge lake called Lake Texcoco and decided to build their capital city there. This amazing city was called Tenochtitlan. It was like building a whole town on a giant playground raft! They used clever tricks to make land and build houses, canals, and even big temples.

Who Were the Mexica?

The Mexica were a powerful group who spoke a language called Nahuatl. They were so strong that they became the rulers of a huge empire, often called the Aztec Empire. They were known for their bravery and smarts. Even though they were eventually overcome by others, their stories and traditions live on today!

A City That Grew and Grew!

Tenochtitlan started as a small settlement but grew into a massive city. It became the heart of the Mexica's empire. They were great traders and farmers, making their city a busy and exciting place. Sadly, their empire didn't last forever, and it was eventually changed by visitors from far away.
